JJBA Fashion History (Part 1: Jonathan Joestar)

Good evening everyone!
Welcome to JJBA Fashion Blog! Today I would like to present you a fashion history in JJBA. As some of you may understand that JJBA already running for 25 years, aye? There must be some fashion change in the time being. Today I will guide you to JJBA’s fashion style from part 1 to part 3, which are the main series in JJBA history.

Part I: Phantom Blood
The first story of JJBA which having Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando as it’s main character. This is the most bizarre story of all JoJo Manga, in my opinion. It only has 5 volumes and still has a Hokuto no Ken styled art in the manga.

It looks a bit unusual for manga nowadays but it’s actually a popular style for young men’s manga in that era. But, me, my self do think that JJBA has it’s own unique drawing, even if it’s quiet similar to Hokuto no Ken which inspiring Araki (JJBA’s mangaka) to make JJBA. So what’s the unique thing that I found in Araki’s drawing? It’s this!

Pretty eyelashes.
Compared to Hokuto no Ken, this eye is quiet feminine.

Isn’t it?

I can say that Araki is already has a feminist side inside him since that time, manly mangas usually shows no side of femminity, even if it’s only eyelashes, I do think that thick and pretty eyelashes doesn’t support a manly hungky character. Especially if you have a body like this.

Alright, beside the eyelashes which is quiet an unique feature on a manly manga that time, JJBA also has another unique thing that actually, made it’s manga has female fans. I’m sure you guys already guess what is it, yes, it’s the fashion on the character that actually made JJBA had female fans, unlike Hokuto no Ken which having men as fan because of all the gore and nudity in it, JJBA has a softer story but still manly enough for a man to read. This weird fashion sense approach is a new thing that time, while the other manga focused on building manly characters like this

Araki build a different character instead. It is still manly, it is still a gentleman, but it’s not dressing as a manly manga character should be, you know, bare chest, scars along the way, instead, Jonathan Joestar has a bulky build but is also can be seen as a soft spoken man with positive traits, and still naïve. Quiet an interesting character isn’t he? Now let’s start undressing him from his teenager time!

Jonathan is a noble man, it’s quiet common in Victorian era that for a noble man, to wear a ribbon tie and socks, since showing part of your feet considered as immoral back then. While having a normal attire, Jonathan’s outfit does has a spark in there, you can see in the small details like the ribbon tie, which is colored bright purple and the socks with red motifs. The clothes it self is usual but the simple detail on it make it looks unusual!
Tips:
Like if you wear a simple LBD or Little Black Dress, you can just add a nice bling with a golden or silver bracelet or necklace. It’s always work that way. Or if you think you wear a dull attire, you could just add a spark with using bright colors as an accessories, but remember, do it as needed, don’t over do it.
Next up is Jonathan’s battle attire.

Please don’t mind his pose, he likes it that way.
We can see a naivety drawn in this attire, while Jonathan’s body is a bulky brawl, Jonathan is a fine gentleman who will never hurt things that is not needed to be hurted, he’s also a nice young man who always love to help each other, a real hero character. But this is what we call naivety. Jonathan, despite his skill in battle, he’s quiet a naïve man, he still believes in his brother who betrays him three times and this side of him, shown in his attire. He wear a childish attire with cute bag on his back, yes it is a back pack, a back pack like the one that elementary school children in Japan has.  I don’t find the accessories like the glove and the belt disturbing but the shirt, which is showing the hips part is kinda disturbing, or laughable matter.  This is indeed a different style in a shonen-manga hero.  Overall, I like this attire for the boots and the gloves, if they hadn’t been there, it’s screwed. The color is all dull and the addition of the blue color as a shirt won’t do either, but it’s showing us the naïve side of Jonathan so it’s kinda 50:50

That’s all about Jonathan, readers! Next time I’ll blog about Joseph! The main character from the second arc of JJBA, Battle Tendency! I hope you enjoy this post and see you guys later!
